Otavalo and Imbabura

This time we decided to write our blog in English, so that our ecuadorian friends can read it as well.

This weekend we went on a great trip to Otavalo and Imbabura.

Cuicocha Lake
On Saturday morning we all meet near the climbing wall in Quito, from where we travelled on a Minibus to the centre of Otavalo. There we had a stroll around on the local market, where some of us bought some handcrafted ecuadorian goods. Afterwards we had awesome fish in a restaurant. Later we carried on to the Cuicocha lake, which is an old volcano crater. We went for a short walk which took us to a viewpoint, from where we had nice view over the lake and to the Imbabura mountain behind us.

In the evening we drove over to the base of Imbabura. For the last few kilometers we changed from our Minibus to some four wheel drives, which took us up to a small hut at the end of the road. After pitching our tents we were invited by the family that lives in the hut to use their kitchen. In there we cooked pasta with chicken and tomato sauce on an open fire. After having a good dinner we felt strong for our tour to Imbabura on the next day.

So we thanked the family with: "Yupaychani" (Thank you in Kuichua) and went for a good night of sleep before we got up at 5 in the morning. We then had some breakfast and started the ascent of Imbabura at 6 in the morning. After a few hours of hiking and some easy climbing almost all of us reached the peak at 4630m.
After all of us returned to the campsite, we packed our stuff and drove back to Quito.
